Has anyone been to Frontier Days before? We are planning a trip and trying to decide on where to stay and if we're going to do the rodeo the whole time we're there or just 1 day and roam around the rest.

Recommendations:
1. Where to stay in Cheyenne?
2. Go multiple days or just 1?
3. Other things to check out/do in SE Wyoming and towards Denver?

We are also into golf so any course recommendations around Cheyenne are appreciated

I have not been to Frontier Days, but I have been to Cheyenne. It's kind of an odd mix of seedy and okay. I stayed at the Best Western Plus just east of town on I-80. It wasn't bad, but it could use an update.

The railroad museum is cool, and I enjoyed the museum on the rodeo grounds.

Laramie is about an hour away. The old Territorial Prison is worth seeing, and if you have time to go up the scenic highway, the area around Lake Marie is beautiful.

If you are flying into Denver and picking up a rental car, tell your GPS to take you towards Greely and to avoid toll roads. This will get you out of town to the northeast and keep you from having to around the Denver perimeter. It'll put you on a US highway that is extremely easy driving.

I went to CFD last year. It is a well run organization and I recommend arriving early for the rodeo the day you choose to go. Traffic can get backed up and I observed traffic filtering in the entire first half of the rodeo.
There is a shuttle system that meets at the interstate intersection. But I drove in early. Parked right by museum and did it first. Since it was early. It was not crowded.
After the museum, they have shops outside security. Then when the gates open. You can go in to the large fairground area where the rodeo takes place.

We had a good time. Can’t help with hotels. We tent camped in vedauwoo and drove in that morning. Did parade/museum/shops/rodeo. Then drove back.

We went in 2006. Had a great time. We went to the rodeo 2 days, bu also used Cheyenne and Frontier Days as the starting spot for a grand tour of the west.

I want to say we stayed at the Days Inn on West Lincolnway, just a stones throw from the I-25/I-80 junction.

Definitely get to the fairgrounds early. Walk around and check out things. We walked down behind the rodeo arena and were able to get pretty close to the roughstock pens one morning. The Indian Village section was pretty interesting as well. They had several groups who would do the traditional dances and drum songs.

Make sure to go downtown to one of the parades. Also, the USAF Thunderbirds typically fly a show or two at some point during Frontier Days.

We drove from Atlanta to Cheyenne and as mentioned used Cheyenne as a jumping off point for a bigger trip. When we left Cheyenne we headed west on 80 to Laramie (stop at the rest area where you cross Sherman Summit) and then took Wyoming Highway 130 west to Centennial which is the gateway to the Medicine Bow Mountains/Snowy Range.

Backtracked to Laramie and headed south down US 287 to Ft. Collins and Loveland, then headed up Big Thompson Canyon via US 34 to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

From there we hit Boulder, Golden, Denver and then headed west on I-70 into Utah.

Love Cheyenne, WY. There is a Hotel Downtown called the Historic Plains hotel and across the street from a Wrangler and Boot store I believe. It is older but has some cool stuff to look at and good spot to walk around. There is also a Rib and Chop steakhouse that I would recommend going to as well, very tasty and within walking distance from hotel.

Centennial is neat, but by turning around there, you missed some very, very beautiful country that was only a few minutes further up the road.

I've been twice and its great. A business partner and I have had a commercial property there since 2006. I did 2 days one year and 1 day another. 1 day was enough for me, but I don't like to sit at the beach for more than a couple of days either. Cheyenne is fairly subdued and you may want to look at Ft. Collins to stay. Its only 45 minutes and will give you more hotel options.
