I have business in Denver the week of Cheyenne Frontier Days, is this fun? Ever been? I don't want to drive a few hours for a county fair but if its interesting, I'm in.

We used to go in the 90’s when I was a kid. My family had custom harvesting business and the wheat is ready in that area around the same time as CFD, so if it rained we’d always go.

Again, this was the 90’s and I was a kid, but I don’t remember it being county fair like at all. I see that there is carnival now, but I don’t remember that.

It was more like a big arse rodeo, with a lot of frontier activities to check out… Indian stuff, chuckwagons, museum, etc., and really good musical entertainment at night. Looks like this is all still the same today.

I have a cousin married to a rancher in Wyoming who sells performance horses. They go for the whole week.

If you’re into that sort of thing, there’s only 2 or 3 of those type events in North America that match it.

Made a big trip out west in 2006 with Frontier Days as the primary reason for going.

The rodeo was amazing, I've been to several, including other PRCA sanctioned events, and the size of the arena is nuts for the timed events - the steers/calves get much larger head starts than in most rodeos so the cowboys have to really be on it to make a good time.

The museum is pretty cool, as is the chuck wagon cook-off. You see all of these custom built rigs that look like they really came out of the 19th century, and they cook some amazing food using the most basic of utensils. I really liked the Indian village with the drums and dancers from the Wind River reservation.

They have several parades downtown during the week, and have huge pancake breakfasts on the days that there aren't parade. If I remember correctly the Thunderbirds always fly in to F.E. Warren AFB and do one or two shows as well.

We went to the rodeo two different days. On the second day we were the first row right behind the bucking chutes. One of the ladies from the Vold Rodeo Company (stock contractor) was sitting next to us and had us hold her sunglasses and purse for her while she climbed into the chute to help load the bulls/horses and get the cowboys on.

I've not been to the rodeo itself, but I've been to Cheyenne several times. It is not the picturesque place you might imagine. Still, though, there are some cool museums there.

Depending upon where you are in Denver, U.S. 87 is a much better drive to Cheyenne than I-25.

I’ve been to the rodeo several times, but not anything else associated with it. If I were in Denver, I would head up without hesitation. Their wild horse race is worth the price of admission by itself

Agree with this.

In the past there used to be a Union Pacific train that ran from Denver to Cheyenne sponsored by the Denver Post. That would be a really fun way to make the trip between the two cities, but I think that stopped during COVID and hasn't been resumed.

Even if you don't make the trip to Cheyenne for Frontier Days, I would suggest finding a weekend to make the drive up US 287 through Ft. Collins to Laramie. Then take Wyoming 130 west to Centennial and continue up into the Medicine Bows/Snowy Range. It is a really beautiful, unspoiled area.
