Cartagena Recommendations

Anyone have any recommendations for places to stay in Cartagena? Wife and I are planning to spend a week there in September. All inclusive or semi-inclusive, if that's a thing, preferred but not necessary. The Melia Cartagena has been the one I have been leaning to if anyone has any experience there.

I’ve not been there, but if I would to travel that far on an airplane to a country so vastly different than the US, an all-inclusive resort is the last place I would stay. It could because I’m old and grumpy, but it could be because we like to immerse ourselves in a culture.

I agree with you, we would definitely go off property, but also want to be relaxing by the pool and beach for a majority of the time. The price difference per person at the place I mentioned in the OP makes it worth it to do all inclusive but still reasonably priced enough to go out and enjoy the city, which I’ve heard is beautiful, and not feel like I’m wasting money.

I don't understand why people go to places like this and stay in all-inclusive
There are a lot of nice beaches and good places to stay in the old town area. Plan a shuttle and check out the islands

Last time I went we rented a condo directly in the new city and then a house right outside the old city. I much prefer the old city.
