Caribbean Hotel Upgrades

Heading to Playa this week and curious if anyone has ever had any luck trying to upgrade their room for minimum cost upon arrival. Staying at an all inclusive (sorry don’t know name wife booked) and just curious as most stuff there is negotiable.

I've seen some videos from travel bloggers where they literally hand the check in receptionist a $20 or $100 bill and ask for the upgrade. I find this interesting because most of these workers are not being compensated very well and upgrades are at their discretion.
