I’m getting married in April and we are going to take our honeymoon later in the year. Iceland is on both of our bucket lists and october is looking like the best month for us to go. I know it’s kind of between seasons so the weather will vary day by day. We both enjoy hiking and my fiance wants to see the northern lights. Any info is appreciated

That's when we went and it was great. A little cold, but almost zero crowds. We stayed in Reykjavik for a few nights then rented a car and went site seeing. The roads were wide open and very few crowds at the falls/ glaciers etc.

We stayed at Reykjavík Marina - Berjaya Iceland Hotels
Icelandair Hótel in the Reykjavík Marina. Great bar scene when we went.

If you do the Northern Lights, I'd recommend doing it by car rather than boat so that you can get some good video of it. We did the boat and with the waves and boat rocking it was pretty tough to capture them.

Here is my thread from when I went a few years ago.

We went in early November. Weather was pretty nice, but we didn't go on the northern half of the ring road.

October isn't a great time for northern lights, but you may get lucky.

Iceland is a great country to visit where there are much more nature and much fewer people. They have had a welcoming tourist industry for over 70 years. Icelanders like to point out that their fall/winter climate is warmer than Boston's thanks to the Gulf Stream. Everybody in the hospitality business will speak flawless English. Every Icelander on the street can converse in English if they want to. The people are very polite but may seem cool on 1st meeting.

Be sure to check sunrise and sunset hours for the times of your planned visit. Days can be short...but not super short in Oct. Be prepared to find these delicacies on a menu : horse, whale, puffin and fermented raw shark. Only the last requires serious bravery to eat. For the less adventuresome there is plenty of well-prepared ocean fish, beef, pork, chicken, etc.
