Wife and I (no pics) are meeting my brother and sister and their families in Monterey this summer. Pretty $$$$ for us to stay in Carmel and not sure if we want Monterey. We were thinking Big Sur and drive up to visit family. Plenty to see/do south of Carmel. Anyone have experience with Big Sur River Inn? Looks good and has store/restaurant.

We stayed at the Post Ranch Inn a loooong time ago. They have a restaurant with killer views called Sierra Mar.
It wasn't cheap but the experience was incredible.
Only stayed 1 night, it was all we could afford.

Enjoy
I'd recommend looking into Hotel Pacific in Monterey.

We stayed here when we went to that area. It was great because it gave us so much space for a very reasonable price. Fireplace + Living Space + Kitchenette ... was easy to get to Carmel/Big Sur/Pebble Beach etc. from there as well... They do have some nice spots in Carmel that I would like to go to if we were to go back. It is pricy to stay anywhere close or in Big Sur, the Tickle Pink Inn.... also Hyatt Carmel Highlands is the other 2 we looked at and did a good bit of research on.
The reason why we didn't go with either of those 2 is because we MAXED out our days and would be up early and come back late.... So if looking for a place to stretch your legs or a place to lay your head I wouldn't spend the extra to stay inside Big Sur.

Went there for a few days for our 20th anniversary. One of the best experiences and views of anywhere we’ve ever been. And the drive there from San Francisco is incredible.
