The wife and I are living in Southern California for work right now. We will be here through the winter. We would like to do a long weekend skiing trip after the first of the year. What are some of the better ski towns in Southern California. We have no issues driving within 6 hours from Los Angeles. Our plan is to get an Airbnb that is pet friendly and spend two or three days skiing.

You can either go to Big Bear, Snow Valley or Mountain High. Those are the only three ski areas around the LA Basin.

Do it big and go to Mammoth. It’s beautiful up there.

I second that. OP should make the trip to Mammoth since they have no issues driving 6 hours or more.

What would you say is the best of these 3?

I think we are going to do Mammoth, but may have another free weekend to do a place closer.

Without a doubt, the best skiing is Mammoth Mountain. It will have consistently the best snow in the state and is a 5-6 hour drive. Great for a long weekend. The Local mountains are too hit or miss for snow in January

Big Bear although Mt High has night skiing.
