Staying in Pensacola for a few days and would like input on the best public beaches in the area. A beach where I can put up a tailgate tent, chairs, etc and not be too crowded.

I’m confused. Does the place you are staying at not have beach access?

Pensacola Beach is not all that big of an area of you want to drive around and look for the public areas. I know the main near the pier seems to be crowded the times I’ve driven by.

For sure you can find a quite area if you head west when you hit the beach road. To even get more solitude, pay the day use fee at the Fort Pickens entrance and enjoy that whole area

There are nice, free pavilions just before FT Pickens.

To the East, after the P’cola Beach public areas, there is 20, or so, miles of Gulf Islands Nat’l Seashore before Navarre Beach.

THIS.

No fees to enter, either, except for one parking area closer to Navarre Beach (Opal Beach) that has built-in pavilions and restrooms. There are seven other parking lots, some of which have port-o-lets or full bath facilities and some have a pier-type walkway down to the beach:

But in other locations, you can also just pull over where there is a shoulder, park and unload, and set up on the beach:

No glass on the beach, though.

Went to Langdon Beach (Fort Pickens) today, it was nice as well. Plenty of close parking at both.
