How awful is this place? Buddy booked hotel rooms for the Bama/LSU game this year there, and I see that it is downtown. Looks like it's an easy, straight shot to campus at least.

He and his wife are gamblers, but my wife and I hate gambling. Any good bars/restaurants walking distance?

Does your friend even know what TripAdvisor is? Go to their site and read the reviews on this hotel.

Sounds like you should never let your friend be in charge of booking the hotels again.

You should just Uber to places. Walking from the casino/hotel to other places downtown at night...not a wise idea.

And I worked at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino almost 20 years ago while I was in nursing school...and it was a total dump even then. I can't imagine it has gotten nicer.

He claims that was about the only thing available that weekend. I haven't checked the veracity of that claim, but I suspect he saw "casino" and didn't check anywhere else.

Reading reviews now, and I'm going to threaten bailing on the trip if he insists on staying there. Or the wife and I will find our own accommodations.

It's the second best casino within 2 miles of campus. Take that for what it's worth.

LSU/BAMA game...that could very well be possible. At least rooms that are affordable.

$389 is probably more than he'd be willing to spend. He has 2 kids in college and is on a tighter budget than normal.

Radisson on Acadian has rooms for $220, and I've stayed there before so I booked 2 there.

Now intrigued by the B&B above, so I'll check into that as well.

Thanks for the help everyone.

B&B

Those freak me out a little(but that is just me). I don't know. I like my privacy and don't want to be forced to interact with the owners. Even if I have my own bathroom...I don't want to feel like I'm staying in someone's home.

i hear ya! only have stayed in one when I went to PNW. Def. different.

However, its across from Sammys which out of towners will enjoy Sammys

Highland road is the best road in BR with the houses and trees and its literally 3 miles from campus

What is Sammy's in Baton Rouge, because in Birmingham it's a strip club.

its cajun restaurant

When i have out of town friends or business dinners, I usually prefer to take them to Sammys. Its gone down hill for some BR folks but its always hit with people who have never been. They still have some of the best crawfish in town

Also look into the Marriot off Corporate Drive. Its a rocks throw from Radisson.

They have a restaurant in the hotel called Stinky's Fish Camp and its not bad. Cool bar as well.

It might be a little out of your budget but I think you would be pleased with the hotel and Stinky's.

Same Stinky's that's down in Santa Rosa Beach? Love that place.

I just talked to my buddy, and $220 is even out of his price range. Not sure why he even wants to go on this trip if he can't afford a decent hotel. He's now talking about a H2 Suites out on Siegen for around $150 a night. Looks a decent distance from campus, which I guess isn't a huge deal. We won't get in town until latish(8 or 9) Friday night anyway, and probably just crash. Then tailgate and game all day Saturday.

same stinky's

Yea siegen will plenty of options for food as soon as you arrive so that will help.

Its probably a 15 minute drive to LSU campus.

I would take either Seigen to burbank (runs straight to campus) - quickest

Or seigen to highland take a right and head all the way to campus... like i said Highland is the prettiest drive in BR. Huge houses and oak trees.

Hope he knows just how bad traffic will be leaving campus after the game.

15 minutes is very manageable.

Pretty sure I've come down Highlands before. We went to almost every Bama game down there from 85-98. I haven't been down for the Bama since 98, so looking forward to it. My favorite road trip in the league.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, pretty sure we got diverted to that route leaving a game one year when we were staying in New Orleans. Can only imagine how much worse it is now though. We usually chill at the car for an hour or so after the game to let traffic clear at least a little.
