Hello All, I have a family reunion in July 2020 with part in Canmore (2 days), a travel day to Jasper and then the other part in Jasper (2 days) - 5 days total. I'm planning on adding 2 days either on the front or back end. For people who have been, would you spend the 2 days in Banff or Jasper over the other or just add an extra day to each place? Family of 5 with kids 12, 10 and 8 . Thanks!!

Add to Canmore. Tons to do around there.

I would do Banff for the add-on days unless you're planning on doing some Banff stuff during the family reunion portion in Canmore.

Definitely do a full day on the Icefields Parkway for your travel day to Jasper.

Thanks HGG, was thinking of this rough framework for staying/flights and was wondering your opinion. Its myself, wife and kids 12,10 and 8 (so 10 mile hikes probably won't work).

7/14/ - fly into Calgary and drive to canmore and airbnb a place in downtown canmore for 7/14 , 7/15 , 7/16 and 7/17. Use these days to see Banff and surrounding things.

7/18 check out drive to jasper taking in the drive.

7/18 checking into place in Jasper, staying there 7/18 , 7/19 , 7/20 . Using those days to see the area and what not

check out 7/21 and take our time on the drive taking that in again and then checking into a hotel near the Calgary airport for the night of 7/21

what are you or anyone else's thoughts on that rough framework. Was thinking book flights and hotels. places to stay then i can fill in with specific activities. But, wondering if that looks like a good framework?

7/22 flying home.

Looks good. You have 5 people so I assume you’re renting a comfortable vehicle. It’s a lot of driving and time in the car. Get a suburban or something of that ilk

You guys could prob handle the hike up to lake Agnes tea house at lake Louise assuming everyone is in good health

Yep, getting a suburban or Tahoe. We are all in good shape also.

Would you stay in Banff or Canmore? We have two nightly get together for the reunion in Canmore, but, the main part of the trip we will be visiting Banff/Lake Louise.

I’d stay in Banff, myself. But I’m sure Canmore is cheaper

Banff is going to be much more crowded. Personally I would spend the extra 2 days in Canmore. I’d look into hiking Ha Ling peak and the Grassi Lakes while you are in Canmore.
