Heading that way in a few weeks. Hiking, Mountainbiking, exploring and in the evenings drink and eat.

Anyone here spent time in this area? TIA

I won't suggest specific trails due to not knowing your experience level or fitness level, but this should help

Hiking - AllTrails - Durago Hiking
Mountain Biking - MTB Project - Durango area trails
14ers (easier routes here) - 14ers

other advice - drive over to Telluride and check out the town, Bridal Veil Falls, Telluride Brewing Co

Should be a great trip

ETA - AllTrails and MTB Project have great apps. I would highly suggest downloading and using them

Bridal Veil Falls

Interesting. I have been to a different Bridal Veil Falls outside of Spearfish, South Dakota. Looking forward to checking it out. Thanks for the info.

I would say definitely worth the two hour drive to do a day in Telluride. One of my favorite mountain towns in Colorado, and Telluride brewing Tempter IPA may be my favorite IPA of all time

I'm sure you know about the beer. My favorite craft beer place was Steamworks. Its in an old building in downtown and they have pretty good beer they brew as well as other beers. The food is good too.

Carver brewing was ok and Durango Brewing was meh. Animas wasn't open yet when we were there. Of course Ska is there but they are in an industrial park at the edge of town. They do the best with their location but the atmosphere is pretty humdrum. They have an outdoor area where they did have some live music one day we were there.

So I camped in Pagosa Springs for 4 nights and spent 1 night in Durango.

Pagosa Springs:

Camping here is pretty nice. Great facilities and good price very close to everything.

Food/Beer:

Pagosa brewing had really nice beer and a great hangout place. Riff Raff brewing was also good, food was OK. If choosing between the two I'm doing Pagosa all day. DSP Pizza was a really great pie.

Go to the springs at least one day. Great place and worth the price. I think it was $25 a full day, locker and fresh towels. The springs are great and can get into the san juan river if it's warm enough.

Durango:

Ska brewing was pretty good beer, not the best scene though. Carver brewing downtown was good beer and great food. Animas brewing was good also. Durango is an awesome place and I wish I had more time to stay there.

Other:

Try to squeeze in a day at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Amazing place and a great place to hike. On your way back from there, swing through Zapata Falls for a hike to the water fall, then head through Del Norte and stop at Three Barrel brewing. Top notch pizza and really nice beer too.

Overall, a great vacation spot and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the mountains and the outdoors.
