We are going in the fall. Plan on hitting Roma, Firenze, Venezia. There's a million spots i want to see in Rome that i know a tour will not allow yet i need to budget time for all spots. Bottom line is it worth it? Or just do it on our own taking the train? I suppose if we do it on our own we could fly into da vinci then depart from marco polo airports.

Check out Globus "Italy's Great Cities" tour.

I did this tour in 2011 and it was outstanding. You can't really sleep in and there is quite a bit of bus time, but you get an opportunity to see most of the major attractions of those three cities in an abbreviated amount of time. I would suggest staying an extra day in Roma, either before the tour starts or after it ends.

Hotels are first class and the tour directors/hotel concierges can hook you up as far as great local eateries.

Good luck, you are going to love it.

Me and my wife just got back from Italy. We visited Venice, Florence, and Rome. We bought Rick Steves book and booked the train tickets. Flew into Venice and departed out of Rome. For sure do the Vatican early morning tour. We used what a life tours for that. Everything else can be done on your own. We also did a day trip to Pompeii. I will try to answer any questions you have

10 days. 2 nights in Venice, 3 nights in Florence, 4 in Rome. If you can, do a wine tour in Florence. One of my favorite parts of our trip. Gives you a break from all the museums. We used grape tours and really liked them. Hotel David in Florence is a must to stay at. Very reasonable price per night

Was planning on doing that. I like chianti classico.

Any trouble getting cash out of ATM's? How many euros should i keep on me? Language shouldn't be a barrier, I speak ok Italian and have studied it before.

Did you have any issues with those damn gypsies in Rome?

Europeans use credit cards much less than we do, most of what they do is in cash. There are atm's everywhere. Many of the bigger cities more popular areas the banks will have entrances with 4-10 ATMs. So I wouldn't worry about cash at all. I just pull out $400 or so at a time, helps you budget too.

Italy is very hard not to love, unless this is a once in a lifetime trip where you need to see everything now or you never will I'd highly recommend just doing 2 of those 3 cities. It's less travel so you get to enjoy the scenery and relax more. I've done the bust it Europe vacation twice now, and last time I went we just did the two cities and the same hotel in each. Not having to pack and unpack every 2 days and catch trains/ load the car really gives you a lot more time.

There's really nothing better in Italy to me than getting a room with a terrace for coffee in the morning and wine at night.

This is a great post. Slow down and don't try to 'check all the boxes'.

We did Chianti Classico region. ATMs are everywhere. I kept about 100-200 euros with me.

My wife got pickpocket on the bus in Rome. Thank goodness I caught the little girl in the action and got our stuff back. So make sure you carry the minimum amount of stuff with you when you're sight seeing
