Hey all. My girlfriend and I are considering going to the Annapolis Boat Show October 10-13. We would probably fly up Friday afternoon and go to the show Saturday and Sunday morning so. .

Anybody been/live there? Any suggestions for food/stuff to do besides the boat show? We’re in our late 20s. Bar recommendations welcome too.

I’ll probably get a vrbo somewhere close to the show, which is by the Naval Academy as I understand it.

Downtown Annapolis has a lot of great bars and restaurants.

I consider Annapolis one of the most underrated places in the country. I love it there

Good to hear. Any thoughts on a place to stay? I just checked VRBO and pickings are slim. May have to get a hotel.

Davis' Pub is worth the walk for your crab! But really this is the best place in the Northeast. It's hard to go wrong with food there. Second to Bethesda. Maybe!

Tour the Naval Academy. It is within walking distance of the town or there is limited parking by the entrance gate.

Take the guided tour for a small fee. Our tour guide was the wife and mother of two academy graduates; I believe they both retired from the navy. She had interesting stories to tell.

Even if you just walk around without the guide be sure to go to the museum where the model ships are. Those are amazing. And go in the chapel and see John Paul Jones' tomb.

Would we be alright staying in Eastport? Unsurprisingly, most of the places to stay downtown are booked that weekend.

There's an ice-cream place in their downtown area called The Red Bean. Check it out. You won't regret it. Annapolis is a cool little town. Was there just a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

Used to work in Annapolis and was just there last weekend for a wedding. Stayed at Hotel Annapolis which was nice. Iron Rooster is a must and so is Chick and Ruth’s. And Cantler’s Riverside Inn.

I have only been there twice and one of those times we were just passing through. When passing through we went to Eastport to eat at the Boathouse Bar & Grill but could not find a place to park so we went into Annapolis. Based on that, if you are staying at an Air BnB, or something similar, I would just make sure a parking place is provided. (If you will have a car.) I would check out the walking distance to the Academy area, but you can probably Uber there. If you walk, you will have to walk across a bridge and pedestrians may not be permitted on it. There may be a water taxi.

There is a fairly large parking garage off of Main Street in Annapolis, I assume it is open to the public, but it may be crowded that weekend as well.

When we stayed there we were at a hotel a few miles from the downtown area and just drove to the Academy.

Wanted to update this with a trip review for anybody searching in the future.

Our VRBO was in Eastport about a half mile from downtown, so easy walking distance. First night there, we got lucky and found out that a friend had sailed his boat into the harbor on his way up the east coast for the boat show. Hung out with them, then got late night food at Davis' Pub. The crab cakes were awesome. After that, we walked across the bridge and checked out downtown until entirely too late. It was crowded because it was boat show weekend, but it's definitely a party town.

Saturday, we checked out the boat show, then met up with another friend that lives in Baltimore and works in Annapolis. He worked in politics for awhile and was pretty familiar with Annapolis' history. He took us around the state capitol and some other old important buildings. We spent the rest of the day walking around drinking/eating, then watched the LSU game.

Sunday, we checked out the boat show then walked around the Naval Academy. Very cool place if you're into boats or really anything maritime. We caught the Saints game then made it back to Baltimore around 6 for our flight home. Uber to and from the airport was about $50 one-way.

Places we ate/drank:

Davis' - like I mentioned above. Good crabcakes. Cool vibe and they stay open pretty late.

Harvest - this place was across markethouse by the city dock. We got breakfast there on Saturday because Iron Rooster was slammed. Solid food.

Iron Rooster - got in there for breakfast Sunday. It was excellent.

Middleton Tavern - ate lunch there one day and had raw mussels for the first time in my life. Big fan. I'm pretty sure we also wound up there late Friday night and checked out a cover band. They move all of the tables out of the main bar area after the kitchen closes.

McGarvey's - got oysters here. It's a cool place, but I wasn't really crazy about the oysters.

Mason's - this is a chain lobster roll place, but I'd never had one. It was basically hot, buttered lobster sandwiched in between two pieces of Cane's texas toast. It was solid, but heavy.

Cafe Normandie - we ate dinner there Saturday night before the LSU game. Very good, authentic French food. There's a fireplace inside. We beat the dinner rush, so I'd recommend getting a reservation. I'd definitely go back there.

Red Red Wine Bar - self-explanatory. Cool place worth checking out, and right next to Normandie.

O'Brien's Tavern - this is the classic "we're an Irish Pub but not really an Irish pub place." We watched the LSU game and had a good time. The back part is a restaurant and the front part is a bar with high tops. They pulled all the tables in the back around 9:00 and had a pretty weird DJ. Navy was playing away that weekend, and it was pretty rowdy with the college football crowd. Good place to watch games.

Mangia Grill & Sports Cafe - this is a little Italian place right across from the city dock. We didn't eat food, but they had Sunday ticket and a bar upstairs, so we were able to watch the Saints game there (Bengals/Ravens were on local programming).

Pusser's - pretty standard food, but they have good drink specials and a cool rooftop area that overlooks the city dock.

The city is very small and easy to get around, and the food was consistently good. All of these places are either right by the city dock or along Main Street, so if you're staying downtown or close to downtown, they're all walkable. We went in more bars on Friday night, but I can't really remember most of them .

We did a lot for having only been there one full day (and it rained Sunday), but I'd really like to have a few more days to check the place out. All in all, we had an excellent time and will be back next year for the boat show, if nothing else because the city was cool.

I know I'm a child, but the two times I went here I laughed every time someone said the name.

You're not alone . The first night we were there, my girlfriend and I made it a point to ask numerous people if they knew where the restaurant was.
