Andaz Papagayo Costa Rica Questions

Looking to take my wife on a trip when she gets back from deployment and have been researching tropical destinations and found the Andaz Papagayo. It’s in the Hyatt ecosystem so I plan to pay for the entire stay with points given their typically strong redemption values. This place looks great and has great ratings, just looking for any first hand reviews. With how well traveled this board is, I figured someone has been to this resort. Thanks!

I have not but I know someone who stayed there early June last year and she loved it.

Whats up tiger rag! Me and my wife spent 3 nights at Tabacon in La Fortuna and finished with 3 nights at Andaz Papagayo back in 2022. We had a great time. Resort was super clean and manicured. A few different pools to hang around and monkeys will come right up to you while you are eating in the open restaurant or swimming. I think they had 3-4 restaurants on site and also a whisky bar, all with good food but pricey.
They have a beach club that you can go to via boat that has some amenities also, SUPs, kayaks and a little grill for food.
Golf cart shuttles take you around the resort if you dont want to walk and there is a shuttle that will take you to the other resorts inside Payagayo. We spend an afternoon at the four seasons as well.
Its a great resort but you are way off the beaten path of everything else in costa rica...id suggest splitting your trip up if you can swing it and experience the la fortuna area if you havent been there before.

Thanks for the insight. You’re actually the third person to suggest doing Papagayo and La Fortuna so I think we will do that. Looking around La Fortuna and Nayara looks awesome.

Nayara IS awesome. Stayed there twice. I recommend the tented camps portion but Springs is great too. About a 3 hour drive from Papagayo. We did the same trip you're considering. Stayed at Nekajui on Papa.

Glad to hear both spots are great. The Nekajui Ritz looks awesome but I’m not trying to spend that much coin this trip

We did Tabacon instead of Nayara and had no regrets. Both are great properties

My wife and I stayed there. It is nice. On our stay, it was not crowded at all. Easy access down to beaches. We found one and had it to ourselves. It is very easy to rent a car and drive to other destinations for day trips. I understand that you have points to use but we have also stayed at Villa Buena Onda. It is not that far from Andaz and is a boutique type stay. We loved it. Only a few rooms and excellent personal service and dining. We did a private boat tour one day. The tour provided lunch on a private beach which was just great. We spent a day on Playa Hermosa. Had margaritas at Roberto's Restaurant on the beach. Another day we did Playa Conchal. Beautiful beach and some great snorkeling. We have also stayed at Nayara Springs. We had many great day experiences from there. Hikes, waterfalls, toured a local farm, and swam in the hot springs at Tabacon Resort at night. You guys should have a great time!

WhatsApp Pablo at the number below if you want easy transport for cheaper than the hotel transfer. We stopped at a liquor store and stocked up for the room. He also hooked us up with an awesome half day snorkeling and whale watching tour for $350 that picked us up at the beach. We enjoyed the hotel as well. Wasn’t crazy about their food/wish they highlighted the Costa Rican food more but overall good. Rest is pretty self explanatory and don’t have much in the way of tips. We were rainforest room in the middle of the property but I think people say higher up is better view. We did a a day at the beach you take via the boat shuttle which was a good time. We walked down to the marina from the hotel which was nice and they had some cool yachts. Got a drink at the marina bar just to change it up. We didn’t stay long enough to justify traveling to another part of the island but we didn’t stay long go to four seasons for a sunset and dinner which was nice. There’s a shuttle from the hotel that will take you there.
