Bring your own plastic cup.
Stay away from the internet.
Don't think.

We stayed a week at the Paradisus Palma Real a few years ago. The resort was really nice, the food was good, and the beach looked like a post card. You really had no reason to go off property.

As far as things you must do...book EVERYTHING through the resort. Most everything outside the resort was sketchy. I consider myself well-traveled and savy, but I couldn’t get comfortable outside the resort. Lots of people just hanging around on dirt bikes all over the streets/neighborhoods. Fully armed guards standing at most storefronts. The resort was surrounded by a 10 ft tall wall (skillfully hidden with lots of vines and landscaping) that was topped with barbed wire. So, I feel like it wasn’t just me being paranoid.

We did an ATV excursion that took us through a vanilla bean farm, cave swimming, and another very pretty beach. It was fun, but we were off in the middle of no where.
