Looking to go in June, never been. Wife (no pics)is looking at Hyatt Ziva but would like to hear from you guys. What is the best way to book hotel direct or thru a site. We are both 60 and looking to relax and enjoy the beach, not into night life. Any help or suggestions for first timers would be appreciated.

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya. All inclusive, adults only
Use Expedia or similar site to get package w/ flight and vehicle transfer from hotel to resort and back. My brother and his wife just went on their honeymoon there and loved it.

I went to the Ziva four years ago with my daughter and niece and would recommend it. The nice thing about the Ziva is that it is really does have a lot of beach. Almost all hotels have a "beach side" and a "road side," but because the Ziva sits out on a little promontory, it actually has beach on both sides. One side has a very broad, open beach with a sand volleyball court, and the other side has palm trees fairly close to the water and feels more intimate. The fact that the Ziva sits on this promontory also means that the hotel is just more private in general, unlike the other hotels in the area, where the beach has more people walking and running up and down the beach, etc.
We enjoyed the restaurants, and I thought the service was friendly and very good. We enjoyed it.

Excellence Playa Mujeres is a board favorite for good reason. My wife and I have been twice and we enjoyed immensely both times. Beautiful property, great service, good restaurants. Great place to relax for a week. Only ~25 ride from the airport in a private transfer.

Why do people go to hot places in June? Why not January or February?

The difference in the avg high temps in Cancun from the coldest to hottest months of the year is less than ten degrees. Unless the temp varies somewhere like Paris or something, I’m not going to change plans because of 8 degrees.

I would look into Grand Velas Riviera Maya or Secrets Moroma. When we book we have always gone through the resort site and usually can get some upgrade that way.
I will say June is going to be hot and humid, and they have been having a lot of issues with the sargassum around that time.
