I have gone back and read a lot of the discussion on Alaska. My wife and I are planning on taking an extended trip to Alaska next summer. We have a pretty good idea of where we want to go and what we want to do. But as I look further into scheduling everything it is getting increasingly complicated.

Has anyone used a travel agent in Alaska to put a trip together? Or any other service to help out.

Thanks.

I have been to Alaska a few times. What’s your issue?

Just the logistics of the trip. Where to fly into. Do we need a vehicle for the whole trip? It looks like a lot of places are not vehicle accessible. We would like to see :
Denali-probably by plane
Kenai Fjords-by boat?
Katmai-bears, fishing?
Or
Lake Clark-fishing,bears
Possibly go to a remote spot for fishing

We want to see the national parks and do some fishing. Maybe white water rafting. Just not sure where to start.

All of your interests are in southern Alaska and I would definitely say Anchorage based on those locations. The only time I have flown into Fairbanks was when I went straight to the Arctic.

My experiences are different from what you're looking to do, but I'm about certain you cannot drive to Katmai or Lake Clark. You also want to fly to see Denali and see Kenai by boat, so a car would be of little to no use for you.

Roger will know more about every bit of this than I do, but my initial reaction is it's an ambitious trip (nothing wrong with that if you have the time and money) that will indeed take some planning.

If I were looking to do this I think I would call an air taxi company in Anchorage and just say, "Look, this is what I'm wanting to do. Do you have any advice?" and just see what they say. I also think it would be good to search for a company out of Anchorage that maybe facilitates such trips.

I would also ask these questions on the Alaska forum on Tripadvisor.

Roger should be pretty helpful, though, whenever he sees this thread.

Thanks for the recommendations. The more I looked the more overwhelmed I became. I agree that a rental car doesn’t make much sense. But I think there may be times that I will need transportation. Perhaps there are other means of transportation (bus or shuttle).

We are planning on spending two weeks. It does look like an expensive trip. But it’s a bucket list trip for us.

What specific problems are you running into? Pretty good bit of collective knowledge in this group about Alaska.

I'm not aware of travel agents specifically for alaska trips

Yeah, Petersburg has that Norwegian Festival, they're all about Vikings.

I've actually never spent much time there. Mainly going through.
