Adding an additional passenger to an existing JetBlue flight reservation

My family (2 adults, 1 minor) is booked on a JetBlue RT flight (non-stop both ways). We are thinking of taking another minor (my niece) along with us.
It doesn't appear that I can purchase a ticket for my niece and add her to our existing reservation. (At least I can't do this online, I haven't tried calling yet.)
So my only option is to try to buy her a separate ticket on our same flights.
But the problem is that she's 12, and JetBlue's policy reads as follows --
Before I waste hours on hold --
1. Does anyone know if it's possible to add a person to an existing JetBlue reservation by calling them?
2. I assume that if it's not possible, I could avoid the $150 fee by making my niece's reservation by phone (but if anyone could confirm this, that would be great).
3. Again, if it's not possible to add her to our reservation, what are the potential downsides to having a minor on a separate ticket? I suppose if there's a flight cancellation, they could rebook us on different flights and I'd end up on the telephone again. Anything else I'm not thinking of?

quote:
Children between the ages of 5 years and under 14 years traveling alone are considered unaccompanied minors. . . . Unaccompanied minors can travel on nonstop JetBlue-operated flights only, except on flights to/from London. JetBlue allows up to three unaccompanied minors per nonstop flight. . . . There is a $150 per person fee, each way for unaccompanied minors which will be assessed at the time you call JetBlue.

I'm sure if you called and booked her reservation and explained she would sit next to the other adult and you would take her seat they would be fine.

My daughter has been on a seperate confirmation number from me several times. Even flying to Europe. She’s 13. The only problem I have is it usually doesn’t let me check her in fully online. It will say checked in but won’t let me print her boarding pass. The app will say see agent. No problems there. We just give them her 6 digit confirmation, make sure her bags are properly tagged and I usually make them print her boarding passes to not have to fumble in my app at the gate. Now with another kid you MIGHT want to have a letter notarized from her parents saying she’s ok to travel, but that’s probably overkill.
You usually cannot add a person to a confirmation on any airline. Only remove. It can become stressful when flights are cancelled and changed. That happened to us and thankfully she was rebooked with us. I didn’t even check or consider her seats I was so stressed out. She did happen to be placed next to me somehow.
