Depending on the list you're looking at it's in the top 5 of most dangerous cities in the world, but I am living here (for now).

Happy to answer any specific questions you have about the place, but overall, I love it. It's stupid fricking cheap.

My monthly spend..

1. $800 a month for a condo directly on the beach in the safest part of the city (penthouse).
2. 6-8 tacos cost about $1.50
3. Beer is about $1 per
4. No Americans here. I haven't seen a single one.

I think I will have a difficult time spending $1,500 a month here since I am not going out much.

All of the violence is in a certain part of town that the police will not even enter. All of the murders are drug/gang related.

The tourist area where I am staying has 100s of the equivalent of the National Guard here. I feel VERY safe and the locals do as well.

Not a place I would take my family but a really fun city for a single white guy.

I run my business online for the most part so I enjoy spending time in other countries/cultures. I've lived in Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia and many other European and Asian countries.

As to why I'm in Acapulco, no reason other than I have never been here before.

I lived in Central Mexico around 2000 and we would often take the toll road ($200 each way) there for a long weekend. It was really nice and much prettier than the Maya Riviera. Mexico is still safe enough for Americans if you stay in tourist and business areas.
