The wife will be attending a conference there in May so I’ll be on my own for most of the time.
Never been so open to any suggestions on things to do/see.

if you are a museum guy ... theirs is top notch. Some really nice parks, markets.
A walk around the old port can make for a pleasant few hours.
The food and drink scene is a star, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding a good meal/cocktail.

Gibby's is a good meal. Beauty's is a good place for a filling breakfast. Hike up Mont Royal for good views of the city

The Mile End neighborhood is full of cafes and restaurants. We had an airbnb near Elsa's so spent a few nights there. Vices&Versa and Brasserie Dieu du Ciel! are cool hangout beer/food places. There are lots of brewpubs in Mile End area and I'm a beer geek so spent a lot of time checking those out. My favorite was MABRASSERIE - Coop brassicole de Montréal which is in an old school. When the bartender found out we were from Texas, he started giving us all these free samples and I got pretty wasted and only paid for 2 beers the whole night. As was mentioned Mt. Royal is nice to walk up. There are 2 ways to get to the top, one is a park road that does switchbacks up the hill and is an easy walk. The other is some wooden steps that go straight up the hillside. We went up the road and down the steps. There is a biosphere from the '67 worlds fair on the other side of the river. If you are in to modern architecture, there is a famous apartment building named Habitat67 that you can do tours of but not sure they have resumed the tours due to covid. You could make a long day trip to Quebec City but its a 3 hour drive or 3.5 hour train trip so would need to leave early. Another day trip is to Montmorency Falls but it is close to Quebec City. Chutes de Roxton Falls is only about an hour from Montreal and is nice but not as nice as Montmorency.
