Copper has now already officially received 100" for the season and it's not even Thanksgiving yet.

because the long term looks dry, warm, then rainy.

UT resorts got around a foot yesterday. About 6" at my house, although it was melting a little throughout the day.
I think we're gonna go back to Solitude on t-day and take advantage of the fresh pow.

Had a couple skin sessions this week - Today and Monday.
Snow conditions got better somehow.
Weekend at the resort should be fun.
Hope yall get some turns over the holiday weekend.

IKON lift tickets at Steamboat, is there a catch? A three day is significantly less expensive than the prices at Steamboat, seems no one would buy at the resort with this price difference, what am I missing?

As long as steamboat is a resort where you don't have to reserve days in advance on the ikon pass, then you're all set.

This was the case for me at Big Sky last year. 4 day pass was much cheaper than going through the resort.

Steamboat is an Ikon resort, so there is no catch other than Ikon has certain blackout dates (usually holidays) where the Ikon pass is not accepted, but only on those dates.
One weekend I was at Steamboat, a single day lift pass was $258. Staggering!
I winced but rode anyway with Ikon.
Ikon pays for itself very quickly at places like SBS.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know it's an option. Plus they stop selling them like now-ish, so if you missed out, you have to buy at the resorts.

quote:yeah. Got to get six for three days. I was about to buy em online and it was over 4K. Looks like ikon is like 2700.

Anyone use the slopes app?
I just use Strava after uploading my trip from Garmin Connect. Used to use Fatmap to find good touring terrain but Strava bought it and didn't integrate all the features. Will have to check out Slopes - just from your picture it looks like it records more data and has more display fields that Strava for backcountry and resort skiing.

Slopes is great. They have a premium version available that shows a lot of different data. I may bite the bullet and get that this year.

I was at Nordic Valley today, starting a new journey teaching tomorrow’s shithead snowboarders. Small little mountain, but has some good spots. Training again tomorrow, then I’ll start teaching next week.

Thoughts for culture to engrain-
1. Make sure they have a portable speaker for the gondola that is way too loud and makes everyone else uncomfortable to say anything
2. Pack as many beers and J's as you can in their pockets or backpack
3. On a beautiful powder run, make sure they just slide down the hill taking all that snow to the bottom of the run in a single attempt
4. Teach them to stop in the middle of a run and just stay there. Doing this in front of people trying to get down the run gets you bonus points
5. At the top of the lift, find the most inconvenient spot to strap in
Mostly kidding about these, we need a little snowboard vs skier friendly banter...

Mostly kidding, right! If I had a dollar for every snowboarder who was guilty of everything you just said I could afford to ski at the Yellowstone Club

One time we went up today, there were literally 25-30 snowboarders parked within 20 yards of the lift. Just sitting, doing nothing.
Our trainer just shook his head and said "classic snowboarders"

Only my favorite students will get this treatment

Question about flying with a snowboard bag on United. I’ve always flown southwest in the past and I’ve put as much as I could in my snowboard bag and was able to get away with only checking that and having a small carryon. But reading the sport equipment section on United they seem much more restrictive. Do I have to check my boots separately? Can I put my clothes in my snowboard bag? I like to cram my bag with clothes to help protect my board but I’m reading things that are confusing like you can only have a snowboard in your snowboard bag. Help appreciated TIA

Headed out to the PNW for a couple of weeks. First ski trip of this season. Hitting Crystal in Washington, then Mammoth and Palisades in Cali. That first chair gonna hit like crack.

I've flown on delta southwest American and Alaska with skis and have had no issues with putting skis and some clothes in to help protect the skis. I doubt united makes you open it up at the counter unless it's over 50lbs
