If that is the alternative then definitely spend 2 days in Barcelona. Can check out the major stuff and even determine if you want to go back in the future. We spent a few days in Barcelona then headed up the mediterranean coast for a couple days. Another option is a smaller city in europe that really only needs two days to see and explore.

Where all have you been OP and why did you decide on Spain? What part of Germany are they from? Barcelona to Munich, Germany is a 14 hour drive. That's like saying you are going to make a quick stop for 2 nights in New Orleans when you are visiting your parents in Chicago.
I'm all about adding stops and I don't know how you are doing your airfare plans, but there's a lot of places that are fantastic that are closer to Germany I'd work on visiting first just due to convenience.

We have been to Paris, Liege, Geneva, Lausanne, Crete, and various places throughout the Netherlands and Western Germany. We will be going to Italy and potentially Iceland in the summer of 2024.
She has a friend who lives in Valencia that we have been meaning to visit so that's why we chose spain. Most of her tennis teammates were foreigners so we have designed some of our travel plans around visiting them in their hometowns.
Her parents live on the border of Germany/Netherlands about 45 minutes from Dusseldorf so we can fly from there to valencia.

It sounds like you guys are young and the travel doesn't bother you, i'm not old and don't mind it. I'm just saying there's still many areas closer to her parents.
Valencian to northern Europe is a trip, lol. I mean again that's like going from San Antonio to DC to stop in and see someone.

I just want to know if I should wait to visit barcelona
Short answer - absolutely. Zip in, stay in Gracia, eat dinner at Barra Alta, skip old town and the area by the beach (high dollar/tourist thing) walk Eixample, have a couple cocktails at a low key spot like Casa Marza...
BCN is a great quickie side trip. Done that plenty.

Two days or even one day in Barcelona is worth it. We are returning for two days in November before driving into southwest France and then finishing our drive in Lisbon. In Barcelona we love Boqueria
