Looking to start the trip off in Genoa and end it in Rome.

Was wondering if there is anybody who could recommend a travel itinerary. Ideally I'd like to visit Parma - Modena - Bologna before heading down to Rome.

Should I nix any one of these cities? Thanks in advance!

No, and definitely not Modena. Modena was my favorite (or possibly second favorite after Alba) place we went. It's got a European collegetown vibe that I really liked.

I’m interested in responses ITT as I’ve only visited the Big 3

Day trips to Siena and Tuscany were some of our favorite things about our trip last year

Of course Florence is a must stop if not already planned.

All of those cities are worth a visit, but I'd drop one simply to have a big longer in all the others.

I’d recommend visiting Cinque Terre. As beautiful as the towns are, my favorite part was in the evening when the day trippers were gone.

Bologna’s a great choice. The food is amazing. Parma and Modena can be done either as two leisurely, or one very long, day trips. I recommend Naples, Ferrara, Verona, and Sirmione, but not all of them on a 12 day trip.
