Naive question for this board, I suspect: Samsung smart TV's remote and wall mount need to be replaced because they were lost. If we order a replacement remote, is it a given that the new remote will be synced to/compatible with the TV? Or does something extra have to take place? Thank you.

Depends on the TV, if it is a remote that looks like the one here you will just hold down the back and play/pause buttons until the TV shows it has sync'd.

There seems to be 2 versions of this remote, a smart and not so smart. Smart will have an IR blaster and can control other devices, the cheap replacement I bought won't control shite other than the TV. Do your research before you buy.

It should as long as the brand on the remote is for that TV. I have two Roku tv’s outside and I can turn either one on with either one of the two remotes

That would only work if his TV remote uses IR. Some Samsung models (as well as other brands) use RF remotes which require pairing
