Why/how does my Iphone 8 volume go to mute by itself

Not the side mute button. Settings is do not adjust with buttons. I set it at the highest volume and and hour later it is on the lowest. It happens just sitting there on the table.
I searched online but couldn't find anything.
Any ideas? Or am I just dense?

My 7 does that also.

Have you connected it to any bluetooth speakers? Sometimes my XR does that getting in and out of the car. I'll be listening to Spotify, get out to run into a store, and when I crank back up, my screen will say that it is playing, but nothing coming out of the speakers. Check the phone and the volume is all the way down, and I haven't touched any volume settings.

I changed my settings as well. Used to allow for volume to change all (or whatever the option was) and all of a sudden my ringer volume would be very low. Now after some recent ios updates i’ll be responding to a text and another one will come, but the damn volume of the text notifications is all over the place. Seems like it’s never the same leve and no rhyme or reason to figure out how to change it.

My older iPhone did this and I found that I was adjusting the volume for the ringer but it wasn't adjusting the volume for other stuff (or vice versa).
Like they were separate things but it wasn't really intuitive on how to change them. They must have fixed that issue because I don't have the same problem on my new phone.
