Thanks for the additional info. I just got a quote from HTD of approximately $4k for the entire 6 zone Lync system (including 6 keypads), in addition to a 7.1 surround setup for the living room. That's about where I expected it to come in at. I'm thinking along the same lines as you regarding the keypads. I may get one or two, but I don't see myself using them much and they are about $200 a piece, so that will save some money. I also like your idea of having a keypad near the shower in the bathroom.

I am glad to hear that you're enjoying yours and I think we will too in the event we decide this fits into our budget. We love music and are listening to music at home more than 50% of the time. I think with the Apple TV, the source setup would have to go from the Apple Tv, to the TV it is hooked up to, and then from the TV to the Lync. So, the TV would probably be the main source.

Really all HTD would be selling me for the home theater is their HD 6.5" speakers (maybe 8", but they are more expensive). I would have to go buy my own receiver. I have been looking at surround sound receivers, and Denon and Yamaha both make receivers which have streaming devices built into them. This seems pretty nice considering that I would be able to use that source with any zone in the house.

Unfortunately I don't think a dedicated media closet will fit into our plans. I had hoped it would, but the only closet that may work for this is far away from the living room and doesn't seem practical in the event we need to get to the receivers, Lync, streaming devices, etc. We have stairs in the living room though, and I had planned to create some built in cabinet/shelf space under the stairs. I think it makes a lot of sense to have the media equipment in that area for ease of access and central location, so we'll probably go that route.

I also can say without a doubt that 4 zones would get a lot of use: living room, kitchen/dining, back porch, and garage. I could probably get by with Sonos, but honestly, it would cost me more and I am of the opinion that wired is better than wireless if you have the opportunity to take care of this on the front end.

We are under construction currently and got a bid from the local AV firm for $14,000 turnkey install, so that pushed me to try to figure it out myself. I have 3 Sonos speakers that I think are great, but wanted to go with a wired system since I have the chance.

I am planning three zones - den, kitchen/dining, and back patio. TV in the den and on the patio, and want to play record player throughout the 3 zones.

I ended up washing my floorplans clean and sending them into Crutchfield... Didn't realize how great their website is. I just remembered their magazine from highschool. Within 48 hours, their Design Guy had sent me back a marked up floorplan and the shopping cart with the recommended equipment.

I shopped the equipment out, purchased wires on Amazon for much cheaper, and think I have it figured out now for $3700 ish. 7.2 and 5.2 Yamaha receivers to Polk or Klipsch in-ceiling speakers. My electrician agreed to run all the wires for me. Waiting on the equipment to come in, and will learn from there...

That is very helpful. I may do the same thing with Crutchfield. I didn’t know they offered that service but they have been a go-to for me for AV equipment for years. HTD did a floor plan design for me as well but incredible helpful that Crutchfield literally sent you the equipment you need.

Your zone setup sounds almost exactly like mine. We also have a record player that we would like to be a source.

I’ve got wired speakers throughout the house that run through the AV receiver. I’ve also got a Sonos one. We’ve also got Alexa devices that run through Marshall speakers in a couple rooms. I use all 3 options. My hard wired speakers are run through the Sonos app. The Sonos one and Alexa devices are the most convenient and are probably used the most

So you let the Crutchfield guy do all the work, then screw him and buy from Amazon?

Purchased receivers, speakers, volume knobs, and small extras through Crutchfield. The savings on wiring was too good to pass up through Amazon.

I def wanted to give Crutchfield their due after simplifying this process for me.

Take a look at the Soundavo whole home audio system. I just installed one in a new build and it could not have been simpler. For under $2K you get a true 6x6 matrix of 6 zones (2- 4 speakers per zone) with 6 keypads fed by any one of 6 sources, two of which are built-in streaming channels. The Soundavo app is outstanding and integrates with all major streaming services as well as apple airplay. The sound is more than adequate on the in-ceiling amazon speakers, but upgrading to Polk RC80i's was well worth it. Each channel has amp pre-outs that I would consider utilizing for longer wire runs.

The unit itself is a clone of the chinese unbranded unit monoprice sells for $700. Soundavo added wired ethernet, built in streaming, customer service and tech support, and most importantly, an in-house app that actually works.

Also, while keypads are included in this package, they offer a package without the keypads for less money. They aren't required for use and are more for eye candy than anything else.

I have looked at Soundavo ( I have code for $540 discount) and HTD as well as OSD and Russound.

I do like the Soundavo the best as far as a controller, but has the least wattage Per Channel. Are you happy with the Amp thus far?

Had also thought about the controller from HTD and the OSD 16 channel amp.
