I have seen Chromebooks before but never gave them much thought until I saw 480's thread. I currently have a Macbook Pro that is on its last leg. Its old and I have gotten 4 spinning wheels so far typing this. I just want something to play on the internet with as I have 2 work computers and an old desktop for Word and other intense programs.

Which Chromebook has the best specs and would you recommend for under $300? I found a few on Best Buy.com but the specs seem to be almost the exact same but prices range from $250-$300+.

Thanks and Ill be around to answer questions.

If you insist on a Chromebook, consider one with an NVidia Tegra. Will probably do a little better graphically in web apps, which is more important than raw CPU performance in these things.

Also, 4GB of RAM minimum or you'll eventually get frustrated.

I do not. Just very turned on by their sub $300 price tag. Alternative suggestions?

A good bit more than my $300 goal, but worth it?

It's solid, especially the 1080p display which is rare to find in <$500 laptops. Pretty much all the 15" screens and lower are 1366 x 768 at that price point.

If you're reluctant to spend $500 and the 1080P doesn't matter to you, I'd consider this $349 HP to be worth the extra $50 above your $300 goal: LINK

Thought of another question, is there a way of getting those specs in a screen smaller than 15"?

Not that I can readily find. A few 11" models with low specs. Toshiba you linked has the best pixel density on a sub-15" screen in that price range.

There's a refurb HP for $379. 14" screen 1366x768, 6GB RAM, A8-5545 LINK
