why did apple decide it was a good idea to do away with the home button on 11 for a swipe up. I am not wild about this phone.

what to do, that is, short of turning off and back on

I would have never gotten an Iphone if it still had that button. Absolutely unneeded.

This seems like user error because if you can't swipe up, you can't use the phone at all.

Sounds like user error. Press it a little harder and move slower than you normally do. Make sure you're right on the bottom edge...

you can turn off and back on

It's a new phone and it's possible it may be defective.

The screen is completely unresponsive? You are sure you are swiping from the white bar?

yeah. Swiping the same as ever. I mean, I've had it a week so pretty familiar with that aspect by now. It's only locked up 2 or 3 times and I just turned off and back on, but shouldn't have to do that. Speaking of lock, I think I'll try just turn off the lock setting. I never locked my previous phone. Lot of stuff on this new phone you really don't really need, some of which is just tracking you for ads and apple.

You have to tap the screen first, then slide up.

And if the screen is coming on when you pick it up but won't slide up it's possible its really dirty. Maybe clean it.

I dunno. I just swipe from the edge of the phone up and it works every time.

I'd take it to the store where you bought it.
