I use MakeMKV. You get a 30 day free trial but if you look on their forum there's a key that can be used as long as the software is still in beta. (It's been in beta for like 15 years)
I've been working on ripping blurays recently in case I want to create my own Plex server.

You're going to want to use Handbrake after you rip them to provide compression. Ripping a DVD (NOT a Blu-Ray) will usually provide an uncompressed file size of 8GB per disc. The size will be smaller if you're ripping something from the 70s/80s.
A Blu Ray I recently ripped is sitting at 54GB uncompressed.

Handbrake can't natively decrypt content from DVDs and BluRays, which is why you need MakeMKV first in nearly every case. There *are* some DVDs which don't have content protection, but they are few and far between.

Really? It’s been a long time since I ripped a dvd but I never had a problem when I had Netflix via Mail or ripping my own collection.

That's the key. Encryption is being applied to even movies from 30+ years ago as they newly pressed.

Make sure you have a huge hard drive. 1 dvd can take up a shite ton of space on your hard drive
