USB 3.0 switch for docking

I bough this: USB switch
I was hoping it would help me switch from my personal laptop to work laptop without having to unplug and replug the USB every time. (I want to get both laptops off the desk and onto a shelf so that I have more workspace)
Problem I ran into is that for some reason, both laptops stay asleep when I switch from one to the other, and the only way I found to wake them up is to lift the lid. They won't pick up the keyboard and mouse until I do.
Any advice?

Might not be the solution you are looking for, but I have a keyboard/mouse combo that lets me cycle through 3 different connected devices. I think it's called MK850.
As far as the laptop going to sleep. IDK. Have you tried adjusting the power settings? I have checked a setting to do nothing when a laptop lid is closed before.
Hopefully someone else more familiar with the switch can be of more help. Just thought I'd help get the discussion going.

Yes I have messed with those. What's weird about it is when I manually unplug the dock from one and move it to the other, it wakes right up with a wiggle of the mouse because I have it set to stay awake with the lid closed and plugged into power

You may want one of theses KVM Switch HDMI 2 Port Box,ABLEWE USB and HDMI Switch for 2 Computers Share Keyboard Mouse Printer and one HD Monitor,Support UHD 4K@60Hz,with 2 USB Cable and 2 HDMI Cable
Though I am not sure if you will also need the HDMI cables run to each laptop. This in one I have used.

Good thought, but I have 2 monitors as well. And my work laptop doesn't have HDMI output so I have to run it through USB

I have something similar for my home setup
3 channel HDMI switch that I mounted under my desk. I can switch from work laptop —> personal laptop —> Wife’s laptop with total ease
The only annoying part is having to reconnect my multiport USB (headset, mouse, and keyboard) when switching from my work PC to my personal
