No, there are some things that Apple wont let you mirror. I want to say the watchTV and DirecTV apps are included in that.

I had the same thought process to stream the app in my bedroom instead of getting another box. Doesn’t work.

You’re right. BUT I have found a way that will work and I’ve verified it with people who have tried.....

LINK

“This device is saving me hundreds of dollars a month in Comcast Xfinity costs. We all know how over priced and out of control Comcast pricing has gotten, since upgrading to Unlimited data w/ Verizon I am able to utilize my iPhone w/ this adapter to maintain my entertainment needs and save approx $160.00 a month.
UPDATE 5mo post purchase: Still working flawlessly.....NO issues at all. If you’re willing to wait 24-48hrs you can watch virtually anything from any Chanel/Network via their respective websites. Take advantage of this device before somebody somewhere ruins it for us.“

“Works great and it allows you to watch anything from your iPhone on any TV that has a HDMI port! Some people on here say it doesn’t for some reason let you watch streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or just any app that streams any video content) but it’s just simply not true! On any TV that has an HDMI port, which it’s insanely rare that you will even own or use a TV that does not have an HDMI port, you will 100% be able to watch anything on TV with this device that you can watch on your iPhone.”

“I even watch DIRECTV through my DIRECTV app on any TV. It’s a must have especially in a place where there is not a internet connection like in rural areas or just any place with no internet.“

“Works perfect for what I needed it for! Recently cut my cable and wifi off at home. Unlimited data on my cell phone and this adapter allows me to stream Netflix right on my TV. I can still view notifications while watching on the TV but any other activity will show on the screen. I sacrifice using my phone while I watch TV, but it's well worth the money I save on everything else monthly. A lot of reviews complain about the price point, but I suppose that's relative to its intended use.“

“We live in the boonies with no cable, wifi or dish. I do own an iPad and just got unlimited data. I also have a amazon prime account. I used this baby and the recommended cable and hooked my iPad to my tv, holy cow! I can't believe I waited so long. Love being able to stream pretty much anything. Great device! I'm sure young people know all about this, but for us older folks, who are not tech savvy, it's a cool little tool. :)“

That’s actually about to change. Airplay 2 was designed to be more cross platform and last week Apple and Samsung announced the ability to stream to Samsung TVs is coming. This is to support their upcoming streaming TV service so I think we’ll start seeing Airplay 2 support expanding to more devices.
