The mobile site is as good a mobile site as I have ever used.

You would have to make and maintain both iOS and Android apps.

I doubt it would be worth the time and money for Chicken.

So what is your argument for the need of an app?

Many companies control what apps employees can install on phones. I doubt TD will be on the approval list

Complex sites like financial, travel, etc, are well served by having the UI simplified to the extreme in an app. TD is already an extremely simple site that scales down quite well to a mobile web page. I can't think of anything the user experience would gain with a stand alone app.
I can. Blocking posts and idiot posters. Would be totally worth it.

Why would a message board implement that in an app when it would make much more sense to implement it server-side?

Also, “my posts” is a link available near the bottom of every page after you sign in. Click it, and then look at the “replies” button. There you will be able to see if someone has replied to your post. I much prefer this over push notifications.

The downside to that method is it's easy to miss when someone replies to an older post. Push notifications are probably the only legitimately useful feature that an app can provide that can't be done on the site itself.

That said, I get far too many notifications as it is, to the point that they defeat the purpose. They're supposed to get your attention for important or urgent things, but when you get one about everything it's a boy crying wolf situation. I realize it's my fault that I get so many and I can disable most of them, but that's a lot of work to tune all of that to be sure I don't miss the truly urgent stuff. I digress.

I think TD should have a "recent replies" or option to sort "my posts" by most recent replies or similar mechanism to make it easier to manage many drawn out conversations.

I certainly wouldn’t want push notifications, but old invision boards had on site badges and email notifications of replies (if you wanted them) like fifteen years ago. Chicken is just apathetic

I could be wrong but I thought TD had email notifications about replies in the early days. I guess when the user count grew too big they had to drop it.
