I was a life long apple guy. Had the original phone, and periodically updated hardware until recently when prices surged. I am shocked at how smooth the transition was, and how much I like the OS in general. Superior to apple. Wish I had jumped sooner. If you are considering a change, don't wait.

I've jumped from apple to android and back to apple. If android had imessage, they'd destroy apple. Both have their pluses and minuses.

That Pixel 2 XL might be the only phone I'd swap to from my iPhone 8 plus right now but only if it were free. The differences in phones right now is becoming so miniscule its getting silly.

These incremental upgrades to phones is blah but they can't have amazing things EVERY release, I guess.

It is hard to pinpoint, but apple really is targeted to old people.

My wife and I and all of my friends all use iphones. We're young to mid 30s. Maybe that's old now a days?

That's kinda a blah generalization though. I could easily say that iPhones are carried by more rich people. When I see text messages that appear in green, I think: "Poor person".

I don't think that's what he meant. I think he meant that between the two Apple is more likely to catch on with older people. Most people my parent's age and older with smart phones that I know have iPhones. I switched to android 3-4 years ago after having nothing but iPhones. I don't know what at this point would make me go back.

I think really what happened was that iPhone was the first big thing and once the older generation started adopting, you're not getting them to switch. They will be much more resistant to change.

Oh, fair enough.
I like both to be honest and would love to play with that Google Pixel 2 XL and even the Google Pixelbook. Both look like nice devices.

Pretty much this.

I got my dad to swap to the S6 a few years back, and he loved it for the first year or so. As all Samsungs do, it went to total shite and he doesn't want to go back to android

You'd really really like the OnePlus 5T. It is very very smooth and only around 500. I have the 8GB RAM version.

Yep. My dad was the only one in our family that didn't have an iphone. He had a blackberry years ago and asked if I could get apps for him on there. The only reason he had it was a physical keyboard, and he had to put up with a tiny screen for that. He finally came around about a year ago, after having a couple of android phones with touchscreens. Every time he'd ask us how to do something on his android, no one really wanted to figure it out. So he got a large iphone and says he loves it.

Every phone gets slower during its lifecycle after all the security issues are patched. Eventually a faster cpu is required.

I'm an android guy, but I've used both extensively and to me two of the biggest differences in day-to-day use are:

- Navigation of OS - I find this much easier and intuitive on android. The dedicated back button and recent apps button are sorely missed when on apple OS. And all the customization options and launchers you can get on android allow tons of custom shortcuts, gestures, etc.

- 3rd party support for accessories - Apple takes this one easily. Most of the flagship androids have plenty of options, but apple shite is EVERYWHERE. Stranded somewhere with a dead phone? You can almost always find an iPhone charger in any store or borrow from a random person. Finding what your unique android needs...not as easy. Hopefully as more android and other devices shift to USB-C this battle evens out some more.

is this a joke?

every iPhone version changes the charger.

usb micro, or even usbC is nearly universal...not just for phone but for peripherals literally everywhere.

But you can still find the one you need just about anywhere.

They've gotten better, but android phones haven't been universal. Depends on which ones you had. Over the years I've had androids that needed:
- Mini USB
- Micro USB
- Whatever unique charger the Galaxy Note 3 used
- And now USB C

And I'm probably forgetting whatever I had before the mini USB.

I'm not arguing Apple/iPhone's superiority . I prefer android. It just always seems like an iPhone person has a much easier time finding what they need. Like I said, USB-C will start to change that

I got a kick out of that as well. Micro USB was far more prevalent than lightning charger.

USB-C isn't quite as prevalent because it's a newer technology, but it will be in a year

the note 3 was yet another USB type.

in fact, im sitting in my office looking at peripherals of hard drives, wirless headphones, cameras, go pros, etc...that all use usb.

all of them

in fact almost ALL products use USB.

Look, I get it. Youre relating this to being at your friends house and asking for a charger.

used either the full usb, or could handle a micro in the same slot.

seriously.
