Switching from Cox to ATT internet - good idea?

Currently, I am paying Cox $104.99 a month for Internet only. They do NOT have GigaBlast in my neighborhood so I have their ultimate package which is consistent 300Mb down/ 30Mb up.

ATT is offering the fiber gig package 1000MB (not sure upload speed for $60.

This seems like a no brained but almost too good to be true. Admittedly, Cox internet has been fairly consistent and reliable but when there internet goes down there tech support is horrid.

Has anyone made the switch either way? Anyone have any real life experiences switching from one to the other?

I had Cox 300 and it was good. I moved and switched to at&t gigablast for cheaper and it has been great. No outage since move in of Nov 1 last year. Consistently 900+ up and down. Wireless in the house is 800+.

I made the switch from Cox 300 to ATT 1GB a month ago and love it. How are you getting it for $60 though? Have cell phone with them?

$60 for 1gb fiber is a steal. Lowest I have seen it is $80. Its 1gb up and down even thought I never saw that on a regular basis. .. usually 600-700 down 750 up.

Using the iPad and computer it showed that with the speedtest.net site. I check about once a month and it is usually that. Never had it below 700 on them. Most stuff is hard wired though. I ran Cat6 to the rooms.

What kind of APs/router do you have to pull that download speed?

Yeah I get 850-950 on hardwired devices but usually no more than 500 on WiFi, and that's rare

That was an offer from an ad I saw online. Now that you mentioned it, it’s probably an introductory offer. But $80 would still be better than $99.

How often do you guys get outages?

Im pretty sure the newer Netgear Nighthawks can do it. They are pricy but kick arse.

ETA: thanks to all for your feedback. I think I’m going to make the jump.

Zero outages, but I've only had it a month. Only had a handful of outages in my 15+ years with Cox though.

I switched a couple of years ago when AT&T entered my neighborhood and was able to lock down $70 per month at 1GB... Also have wireless and DTV.

It's a 1 yr promo and 100/mo afterwards. I have the same offer right now. I do have cell service with them.

Ok, that's what I figured. Mine is $70/month for a year with no cell phone.

Also have $70 per month Gigabit from AT&T. By far the cheapest it's been since they rolled it out in my neighborhood two years ago.

But then you have to deal with ATT. Price will increase drastically, and customer survice will be terrible.

Just cancel. Sign back up in a few months. I've done that with ATT three times in the past few years.

Most normal people don't have time for that.

Don't have time for a 15 minute call once per year to cancel? Then another 10 minute online order to sign back up?

Yet we have time for shite posting on tigerdroppings.

ATT gigabit has been solid for me. In a year, it's only gone down a couple times and lasted less than 30 minutes.

When I had Comcast, it could go down several times a week for hours at a time.
