Got home yesterday and my internet was down. Restarted my modem, nada. Checked my wireless router and it has no power. Hit the reset button and power button. Nothing. Tried another power supply and still nothing. I was checking my devices in the bedroom and noticed my Bose wave radio display was odd, tried to turn it on and it's not working. Unplugged the power cord and nothing.

I'm thinking a power surge did them in. The radio was 15 years old and the router was maybe 2. What I don't understand is that it seems like only these two devices.
What do you guys think? Power surge or a coincidence?

Happened to me a few years ago. Narrowed it down to my cox cable line, then router, through many Ethernet cables to whatever was hardwired in to them. Over $10k of damage.

Every piece of networking/computer gear I have is on a UPS, and has been for 20 years. Oddly enough, I’ve never even had a surge destroy the UPS, let alone anything plugged into it. Some of them come with surge protectors for coax.

I went through this once, when lightning hit a tree in my backyard. Everything electronic that was powered up was destroyed. It even burned up the breakers that were powering the circuits that the devices were plugged into. What didn't get fried? My AT&T Gateway because it was plugged into a UPS that they provided. I spent a lot of money replacing equipment, it included 5 ceiling fans on my patio, and it included UPS units for every electronic device that stays powered up 24/7. Haven't had an issue since, and this all happened in 2007.

ETA: I also added a whole house surge protector.
