True. My receiver isn't that nice unfortunately. Not to mention my wife HATES the receiver cause it sits in an entertainment center that's only about 4 inches off the ground. The kids get into it (since it's open) and start spinning the knobs.
So welcome to volume 110 and turn off the AppleTV signal over to the radio. Nothing like getting WWL at ear burst levels out of the blue.

My house also isn't wired for zones so Sonos makes it easy by connecting the speakers to wifi.

The only thing this can do that my AVR can't is handle wireless speakers.

That's a pretty big gap considering that is the basic point of a Sonos system to begin with.

Not when you have the ability and do the work to wire your house and outside for in-ceiling speakers. Cost me about $300 to run the wires and install speakers.

I run my speaker wire on the ground, doesn't bother me a bit. To me modern systems are all about the front end. I have a Tb of lossless music on an external drive and I can flip through it with any device in the house. Actually I have two computers both accessible through the remote app, and anything in the Internet, though the quality of that can be suspect. I work from home and basically just listen to albums back to back.

I really don't understand the idea of wireless speakers. If I had $100k to spend on system I'd still only have two speakers...but mine was only $2k and I set up 'office' in front of it all day. Airport, DAC, integrated amp, and speakers...my wife even turns it on to watch Downton Abbey, so it's blonde proof and all.

Well everyone's setup is different. My TV is wall mounted and I have ceiling speakers currently.
Your setup would not work for me, those wires are not baby proof and would lead to a lot of stress and crying from the kiddos.

My son grew up right here and he's fine. I want the TV being at eye level, and the highs of speakers being at ear level. Neither of those two are negotiable.

Yeah my one year old would be playing with those wires all day.

I think your kids could chew on a speaker cable, if that's what they want to do, and not get lit up.

Y'all need to research Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF), and see where y'all are at.

They won't get electrocuted, but they could easily choke on the cable. If you have a kid, you know that they put everything in their mouth at that age.

Your setup would have a WAF of 0 by my wife. Speaker wires visible, speakers on the floor (even if they are floorstanding speakers), TV not mounted on the wall, black media console, etc.

I told my wife about how we could setup Sonos and get rid of the 3 front L, C, R speakers AND the giant receiver and she almost had sex with me right there. She got wet just at that thought.

When money frees up, I'll probably be going Sonos.

That's awesome. Our living room is is 100% Wife Approved.

The Media Room I built on the other hand is about 75%. I have some on-ceiling mounted speakers that I put up for Atmos. It's a temporary solution until I can mount in-ceiling speakers. Still working with the correct placement and angles. With a 1 year old and another one on the way it's hard to find time to work on it.

So in that room, you're going full on wired speakers? No sonos in there?

Yep, it's all wired in wall and in-ceiling. Only visible wires are the short connections between the wall plates and speakers. System is a dedicated theater room and us 5.1.2.
