They'll last like 10-20 years.
Go gen 3. Did you get my email?
Also you can find those bulbs for $35ish all the time on eBay if you're patient.
Not every light needs to be a colored bulb.

What's the difference between gen2/gen3? The dimming feature?

Gen 3 have slightly better greens.
The problem is if you mix gen 2 and gen 3 lights the colors won't match up when you change them in the app. That would drive the OCD side of me insane.
Save yourself the headache and go all gen2 or gen3.
I've seen deals on the gen 3 lately so you might as well go with the latest if your just starting out.

I agree - thanks CAD you're the man
Talked to the contractor yesterday - I was thinking I'd have to come out of pocket for this, but apparently it's included in my budget so I'm pretty happy with that
Sorry I've been a pain - I just like to do things once, and do them right and I've never messed with these before

no problem. hue is one of the only things i've recommended lately that hasn't let me down. the product is a rockstar.

Make sure they are the same Gen's.

That's what I'm looking for... functionable and reliable
How do the colors work when it's still light outside, assuming I don't have blackout window shades? Are they bright enough to still work?

they are no better or worse than any 60w a19 style lightbulb. in fact when you set them to 'concentrate' or 'read' mode they get even brighter/whiter than your old style incandescent.
they're plenty bright; i use them indoors and out.

here are a couple crappy pics.
the red/white/blue theme was from july 4; notice the lightstrip in the background and the floor iris are continuing the r/w/b theme
and you can't see but it continues down the hall and also outside in the screened room.
the white is what the lights normally look like. you can see they really light up a room just by themselves.

Holy shite, $50 starter kits? Where can those be found?!?!?! I've got a shite ton of Hue all over my house but I'm always looking to add more!

mctiger is a savant. he picks the home depots apart when they clearance these out.
you may want to hit all the home depots in your area but you'd be lucky to snag one.

Yup, get to your nearest Home Depot. Look on the shelf and behind customer service. They normally keep the HA locked up. Found 5 at 1 store that showed only 1 in inventory. 3 at another. 2 stores showed stock, but they didn't have any. They dropped in price last week, so they are probably gone already.
Posted on 9/12/17 at 10:55 pm to Mr. Hangover
Keep in mind the new starter kits now come with 4 bulbs instead of 3.

About 2 months ago, my local HD had a clearance on all of the Hue Bloom for $15.02 each. I snagged the remaining 3, and found 2 more on clearance at another HD across town, so I snagged them too. I wish I had time to check for these kinda deals weekly.
Posted on 9/15/17 at 7:33 pm to TigerDaddy30
FYI not as good as home depot but i just noticed target has the gen3 starter kit for $139 (regularly $199) and it may drop lower.

Or hit up Lowes for their 75% off Lightify lights.

HD is putting these starter kits on clearance because they are discontinued. Do you have any concerns about compatibility with future models or anything like that?
