Smart Watch Advice

In the market for a smart watch.
Primarily use is for an activity tracker, but would like the functionality of reading texts etc. From looking at things from an activity tracker standpoint having the GPS on board is pretty big thats a big step up from just getting a standard fitbit and for work having the text capability is why Im looking at going with a watch rather than just a tracker. Though Im willing to be swayed either way from those with experience.
Have looked briefly at the Fitbit watch (ionic) apple watch etc.
Any opinions?

consider garmin. when i was a wanna-be athlete their shite was top notch.
i haven't seen what they've done in the smartwatch game as much, but every 'fitness' app i've played with on the mainstream smart watches is very underwhelming.
they cut their teeth on GPS (duh), HR monitoring, power monitoring, and getting in big with all the major fitness tracking websites.
if i were going to buy a true fitness-oriented watch/device i'd put them at the top of the list.

Agreed, but depends on the level of activity you want to monitor.
If all you care about is steps, then almost any watch will do.
If you're a runner/biker/swimmer, then garmin is definitely the way to go.

Ok, so I am all over this as I've owned the Garmin Fenix 3, Samsung Gear S3 and now the Apple Watch.
Here's my help that I can provide:
Q: Do you own an iPhone or Android cell phone? Obviously this will steer you away from the Apple Watch or S3 depending on your answer.
Q: Do you like big watches? If no, do not consider the S3 or Garmin Fenix.
Q: Do you workout a lot? If so, I've found pros and cons to all 3 watches but if you're a fitness nut, the new Garmins are the way to go - in my opinion. They do the most from biking, running, walking, swimming, gym, etc.

I'm trying to pick one too.
Definitely want android wear 2.0, smaller (can't stand the huge Fossil ones) and one that looks rather minimalist. Leaning original huawei watch.

I have a moto 360 sport. I have 0 daily issues with the watch. Has build in GPS and heart rate sensor, so don't need my phone if I want to use a tracker, like Runkeeper. Another plus is the watch can be had for $100-150.
The only downside I have with this watch is the watch band is non-replaceable. So if it ever breaks I'm SOL. So far have had the watch for a year and no issues with the band.
The samsung watches are decent, but be warned they run on Tizen and not Android. They are not compatible with all android apps like the Android wear watches are.

If you have an iPhone, get an apple watch. There's really no reason not to if that's the case
