its also pretty short sighted to assume you'd never want to use your voice to open/close your garage doors.

Works fine for me with Siri fwiw. Again, HomeKit.

thats awesome myq isn't charging you apple users a monthly fee..yet. but they are for amazon, google and IFTTT so there's that. you feel confident your free voice control will last?

i'm talking about someone buying a new smart opener. there's ZERO reason to pick up a myq over something else.

zero.

My garage door motors show to be from a company called “Viper”. I’ve yet to find a smart garage door controller that shows “Viper” under the list of compatible motors. The wall keypad that I use to open the doors is Marantec brand, though.

your doorbell control has 2 wires that run up the wall and across the ceiling to your controller and plugged into a little panel on the back.

any smart controller that simply interrupts that circuit (splice into those 2 wires) will work, guaranteed. these ignore manufacturer and simply use a battery powered sensor you stick to the back of the door that can detect open and close (ps myq uses a battery operated sensor too).

so as long as you buy a unit that works that way it will 100% work. the myq bullshite uses rolling-code pairing crap to try & 'pair' with the system which may or may not work for your equipment as chamberlain can decide which companies they like and don't like and deem to support (they hate marantec FWIW).

i have 2 smart controllers hooked up to 2 marantecs at my house and they work just fine.

Good to know. This should make picking out a smart home controller much easier. Thanks.

ETA: by the way, which smart controller do you use for your garage door?

i bought 2 zwave+ go control units because they are more scriptable and useful in my HA automations. i wouldn't recommend them to someone who doesn't tinker with this stuff because you will have to buy some type of zwave controller hub and also learn some basic scripting to get true use out of them.

upside is i can tell alexa to 'close the [x] door' or 'open the [x] door' and it will do it without having to add some silly code or anything to it. i'm not worried about someone yellling for alexa outside and breaking in because i gave the doors unique names that only me & the wife know

the nexx would probably be perfect for you. easy install and voice control built-in.

i also love that i got a downvote for my post above which is 100% facts.

as long as you stay in the tiny sandbox myq gave you.

heaven forbid you want to do more than use your phone as a glorified remote control.

You mean like have my Garage Door close when I lock the deadbolt coming in from the garage? Or send a signal to close the garage when I say Alexa Goodnight?

Both of these are largely irrelevant anyway since I have the garage door set to close after 1 minute.

No you don't. I had something set like that for about a day and got tired of putting things in front of the garage eye to keep it from constantly closing.

They get apple users by having to buy the homebridge. I doubt it will go pay as apple most likely has shite about subscription services when companies go HomeKit. I wouldn’t do myQ again, but I bought mine ages ago when options were really limited and got the homebridge free.
