Sling TV 7 day trial..impressions and questions

Since I'm a few months away from my ATT uverse bill losing all of the initial sign up discounts, I decided to check out sling after hearing so many good things.
I'm running it on the previous Gen Apple TV. If I decide to pull the trigger I'll probably buy the 4k version for the living room and put this in the bedroom. I went with Orange+Blue, DVR, and sports + which looks like it comes out to $55/month.
First impressions are great. The interface is great and pretty snappy and it doesn't take long at all for streams to pull up. This is light years ahead of the usual cable box interface and really like that when you're surfing channels, all of the On Demand stuff for that channel is in the same place.
I have a few things set to record with DVR so we'll see how that works.
The only real main channel not covered is CBS. Only watch a couple shows on there but I'd have to figure out a way to get those. Hopefully the CBS apple TV app will let me watch the latest episodes of shows for free?
One thing I wasn't fond of was having to pay $10 extra to get SEC network. When browsing the website initially I was under the impression that was included in Orange.
All in all, even if I roll with the $55/month deal that will be less what I will be paying. And I really like the idea of being able to watch any of this from TV, phone, tablet, etc.

have live sporting events gotten better? When I had sling 2 years ago, football games weren't great. Quality was bad and the stream would get stuck on commercials.
Before you decide, you might also want to give PSVue a free trial.

Ive been with sling since they started and never had that issue. Only issues I had were using the xbox app. Switched over to a firetv and the experience was 10000000x better.

I haven't watched a game on it yet, but every channel I go to is fine. Like I mentioned above I'm running on an Apple TV so that may be the difference. I've heard bad things about folks trying to run it on Fire Sticks.

I was using fire tv with sling and plenty of folks on here had the same issue. I would say most folks on here thought Sling wasn't a great live events option. And no it wasn't my internet.
You may have been one of the few but from the Sling reviews on here in the past people thought it was garbage compared to PSVue.
I didn't have PSVue this past football season so I have no idea if their network was able to handle the increased congestion.
Sling might have improved and PSVue could very easily have gone to crap when their subscriber base exploded.
All I know is football seasons ago, Sling was not great.

Sling was fine for normal tv. You need to watch some live events before making a decision. I ran Sling on both Fire TV and my PC.
Once again, tv shows were always fine. It just had trouble with live sporting events. This may well have changed since I ran sling.
Doesn't hurt to give PSVue a free trail too. I hated both interfaces. Sling was easier to get around than PSVue.

Vue on the PS4 has become a buffering mess, but it's still flawless on the Fire TV.

I know Sling has issues with the Fire Stick, but what about the regular Fire TV?

Watched rose bowl on sling with fire tv. Flawless. ESPN 3 channel is a mess still.

Maybe I was lucky. I don't know, as soon as I switched to a firetv and quit using the Xbox one app any issue I had went away. I really wanted to use the Xbox one app but it sucked horribly.
I don't blame slingtv for that though, especially since it got so much better with the firetv.
I do use it with a fire stick in the bedroom. The fire stick is slow, bit once the stream starts it's fine. I would not recommend the stick though, especially in the living room. We rarely use it because it's laggy on all apps.

I may check that out, I need another TV anyway.
Does DTV now have local channels?
After looking at their channel options, the base actually includes quite a bit, CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox. Not sure about the local versions though.
Of course you have to go up to the $50 to get SEC network. That's pretty much the only reason I'd need to.
