I've had an old Apple TV forever and love it due to just being able to move it to the patio, and how easy it syncs up with airplay and my iMac. But the old ones don't have an appstore and no way to get one. My little girl wants to watch Disney Jr all the time and the only way to watch Disney stuff is to get the new app on the new Apple TV. (the app on the old Apple TVs no longer works) Do you think it would be worth it to get a new one?

Any other added benefits of the new ones besides 4k? (which I really don't care about)

Over had the old one forever. Since I've cut the cord I now have one more 2nd Gen and two more 4ks. The 4ks obviously perform the best. Plus I really like the voice integration into the remote.

I have an older Apple TV and have had it for 6-7 years I think, which is crazy considering the way technology evolves.

I actually still use it, but now only to airplay music to my patio through a second zone on my receiver.

I imagine the newer ones are fantastic, but the price tag is pretty high. If all you really need is Disney Jr and normal streaming, the Roku stick is probably your best bet IMO

Like guy above me said. If it’s just for that then grab a fire stick. My house has a mix of Apple TVs and Rokus. So having some of each isn’t an issue.

Not sure your tv service. But right now Direct TVnow has a pre pay for 4 months of service and get a Apple TV 4K free.

We've got Directv, which I think would be great bc I could just enter in my account info and watch whatever. I'm also curious to see what is gonna happen with the Disney streaming service or even if there would be a need for it if you already have a directv sub.

Disney streaming will have a much more robust catalogue

I got an older one around 2012, then bought the latest gen late last year and moved the old one to a bedroom.

The new gen remote takes a while to get used to.

I don't like that they dropped the ability to fast rewind or fast forward while still viewing a show, which I could do with the old gen. There are some shows I watch just for info that I used to zoom through with closed captioning on, and I'd finish watching an hour show in less than 30 mins.

Occasionally, when waking up the new gen model, the remote stops functioning for a couple of minutes, and you just have to wait it out.

However, I rarely use the old gen model now because it only supports Netflix. So the new model gets the bulk of my viewing time.

If it's just for Disney Jr I would get a firestick or a Roku. But if it's going to be used for your main TV source, I really think the new Apple TV is worth it, especially if you already have other Apple devices.

Using your photos for a screen saver on the Apple TV is pretty cool

What is the huge benefit aside from airplay?

I have a homepod that I like, but there doesnt appear to be any added functionality from that either.

I never had the older Apple TV models so I can't compare. But I use screen mirroring from my phone. My kids love it. Also, it will automatically set your TV to 4k Dolby Vision if it supports it. I've had no streaming issues. It has fast load times. Tons of apps. Although I fricking HATE the remote.

But there's really no functionality for homepod. I have a homepod, and apple tv will display the album cover of what's playing on homepod, my daughter loves that, I can't listen to music without airplaying to apple tv so she can see the album covers. That's really it.
