Separate Router/Modem or Google WiFi

Dear all knowing Tech Board. Have Netgear N600 router/modem combo and comcast tech said it's best to switch to separate modem and router. Currently paying for 200 Mbps and only getting 10-12 on 2gHz and 35-50 on 5gHz. Hard line is only getting to 120 Mbps at times.
Have a two bedroom apartment and thinking about moving to Google WiFi. Will have three phones, two iPads and a laptop being used on network. What is best choice for coverage? Currently have an extender and 2gHz speeds are less than 1Mbps due to router/modem issues.
Thanks!

Not a tech guru, but if your coverage is less than 1000 ft2, you won't need any mesh network. Just get a router and modem, coverage will not be an issue.

It depends on the shape of your home, amount of radio interference you get and even the material your home was constructed of.
It sounds like you are definitely having major issues now though, your wifi should not be limiting your speeds.
Check out this review. It is a good look at many of the current mesh setups.

I keep reading that the Netgear Orbi is best since it doesn't lose any speed from node-to-node.

The plume pods each have an Ethernet port which can function as wired backhaul or be used to connect a device to the network so those could still be an option.

The Linksys Velop introduced at CES is now considered the best apparently... also the most expensive.

Velop sounds legit but for general use it seems Google WiFi will do the trick. There's no gaming or high amounts of 4K streaming going on. Coverage is the main issue. Perhaps after a while if Velops cost comes down it will be #1 on the market.

I setup google wifi tonight in about 30 mins. 3 waps. Works like a charm
These also have a Ethernet port to hard wire in a device if you wanted to.
