I have a LG v10 smartphone, and I'm not able to receive or send gif messages. The one I receive are just still pics. I've used Google hangouts, and textra messaging apps with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks

Textra has built in gifs to choose from to send. And they just made it where they can shrink videos to send them on texts. I don't know about sending gifs you find on the internet

Hangouts has been gif compatible for over a year. Both sending and receiving.
Any gif too.
Use it damn near daily and have for a long time across 2 different devices.

Buy an iPhone; use iMessage; never worry about compressed videos/images again.
You're welcome.

He probably doesn't want to downgrade phones, especially to a chick/old person phone so that doesn't work, unless OP is a chick or old.

I've tried hangouts as well with no such luck

How are you sending them in Hangouts?
You save the gif to your phone, and then choose to send an image, and choose the gif.
The gif should even animate in the preview before sending.
