May seem like a dumb question but is Roku used as a platform for YouTube TV, Hulu TV or is it it's own thing? Does it act like a firestick?

Also if it does in fact act like a firestick couldn't I just use my smart tv for youtube TV instead of getting a Roku?

roku is basically an android box with a marketplace of apps you can download (free & pay).

amazon fire tv is similar but it has the entire amazon app store behind it and its easier to side-load apps.

It's a platform for other apps. Yes it acts like a firestick. You can use YTTV, Hulu, etc on roku.

You could, but in my experience smart tv's aren't supported very well if at all. If it's a roku tv, then I would use it. If it's the TV manufacturer's own "smart" OS, I would hook up a roku to it.

This is just my opinion, but I have never been impressed by Amazons UI. Roku is much better.

I already have the 4k amazon firestick. Should I just stick with that instead of getting Roku? I use Netflix and Disney + on it but that is about it.

i went ahead & purchased 2 amazon firesticks the other day because i do like how easily the remote 'found' the TV and was able to turn it on and manage volume.

this is great for those old TVs i have around the house that i dont really want more than the ability for the kids to watch a show now and then or live tv.
