Looking to get one of these for my boys for Christmas, but there are tons of them out there on Amazon. Any to stay away from, or ones I should specifically look for? Most of the ones I see say 20,000+ games. Is that something that is just going to be too much for kids to use? I was thinking Nintendo, Sega Genesis, N64 type games, and I'm sure plenty of those would be included.

You can play NES and Genesis on like smart watches these days.
N64 is hit or miss because the emulators have some issues, IIRC (it's been a few years).
Are you talking about handheld or on a TV?
From what I've seen on Youtube This 12TB hard drive is the best, although it appears to be highly illegal. You also will be limited by the computing power available for the newer systems/games.
If you just want something to play the classic systems (NES, SNES, Genesis, MAME, Neo Geo, etc.), you can probably go super cheap.

Not handheld. One of the firestick looking devices with a couple of controllers.

You can get a mini PC, for instance:
Mini PC
You can download the Emulators and ROMS and you can find the controllers on Amazon as well

Also, instead of downloading multiple Emulators, you can just download "Retro Arch" which has all the emulators in one. You would just need to download the game Roms

Most of which are available in large sets on Archive.org

IPT has all of the N64, NES, and Gamecube ROMs. Many other consoles too (PS1, PS2, Wii, etc)
