Some sort of social media thing my kid has.
Being a little bit secretive about it.
Says it’s for school. Is it

It's a chat app. Like groupme or telegram.

Slack is an app that lets you create your own groups.

Have you used discord? Same basic premise, but slack is more geared to business groups.

Without knowing who he is actually communicating with, it's impossible to know if it is innocent or something more explicit. He could be sending nudes and such through it. It's just a chat app. You can automate and put all kinds of bots on it to play text games and ping you about certain things.

It got big around here with the kids when Pokemon GO first started because they had maps setup to ping you through slack when certain pokemon were near.

Let me give you a buzz word...or buzz phrase.

Slack is a app that is a part of a semi-new category of apps that call themselves "natural working environments".

It is possible that it could be used for school although I won't pretend to know your kid's motives. Slack has a kind of business focus but with the nature of the app it could be used by some parties for sinister motives.

I was at a HRIS conference last week and one of the major announcements was their implementation of a assistant bot for their software. One of the big things behind it was the integration of the bot to "natural working environments". The first one that they partnered with was Slack even before MS Teams.

depends on what the group owner has history set at, you can turn it off so it deletes everything too.
