Would 72” be too big? I hate shopping for TV’s.

That's pretty damn far. I'd put the biggest TV you're willing to pay for up there.

I'm about 14' from my TV. 65 is the minimum I'd do and what I have, but you can certainly go to 72 easy.

ETA: your issue is going to be aesthetic. At a certain point the TV may dominate the wall in a way that may be tacky. Your wife will decide that part

That’s what I’m worried about right now we have a 55” that’s standing on a piece of furniture that she absolutely loves and she already told me it’s staying. So I want to hang this new TV above this piece but don’t want to dwarf it.

I went and looked at the 70” LG and 65” Samsung today at Costco. Both look great and both are under $1k, on sale. I have to pull the trigger by Saturday if I want the Samsung.

I looked at the Sony, Samsung, and Vizio. All 65 and 75"

ruled out the Vizio as some of the colors were off. Almost decided on the Samsung but ultimately went with a 65 sony.

We have been very pleased with it. It's in our hearth room which is open to the kitchen as well. to the back of the kitchen it's probably 40ft and maybe more. The 65 has been fine.

We have a hutch/cabinet thing whatever you call it under our TV. As long as it is longer than your TV is wide it will look OK. At least relative to each other.

The cabinet thing we had before was the same width as the TV and that looked weird as hell.

Definitely mount it though. Just looks much cleaner. I went ahead and bought a Samsung 7.1.4 sound bar system so it's Cabinet, approx. 5 inches of space, sound bar, another 5 inches, TV. Looks great to me.

What Sony did you end up going with? I’m in a similar situation.
