Have a recessed can light in my kitchen ceiling. Changed bulb. Bulb socket came loose inside can. Now bulb lights but dangles. Tried to reseat socket with very limited skill set or knowledge. Googled problem, nothing I found was simple enough for me to grasp. So now I’m stuck with this dangling bulb and the only 2 people I know well enough to ask for help are both out of town for an extended time.

Ideas?

i'd have to see exactly what type you have, but i replaced all mine with the 'all in one' kit from cree. works very well and looks a helluva lot better than 117 different kinds of bulbs in the cans.

its easy and it makes your cans look brand new again. The little metal legs 'snap it' to your ceiling and if you need to remove it, you twist the entire thing (like a lightbulb) and the legs collapse and it comes out. it really couldn't get any easier.

Your husband can probably fix it for you.

i assume other brands do the same thing. just pointing out an 'all in one' solution using an LED is what he needs instead of a lightbulb.

LED
I appreciate your recommendation. What I have unit now is LED spots, I called em bulbs for the sake of simplicity. But what is dangling out a little since I changed the old one out is the new dimmable LED indoor spot. The box is not an all in one. Wish it was - it is one of 7 units in our kitchen.

How many cans do you have?

Similar to CADs suggestion, you can just buy an LED trim kit. It replaces the “bowl” of the can light with a sealed LED fixture. The trim kit uses the same housing, screws into the bulb base, and pops in the same as the existing trim ring.

Hd to bust your balls about it. Honestly, some of those cans are a bitch to get back in properly. I'm talking about the ones with the two little spring clips.

He should not have to replace the housing.

Where the bulb screws into is on a small plate that is flimsy. It attaches on one side of the can via a bolt and a wing nut.

If you have access to the fixture through the attic you can get that bolt back through the slot, and get the wing nut back on there.

All of these other suggestions for whole kits will not help. The actual plate is disconnected.

You can see where it attaches below.
