Has anyone found a QR Generator that can either be a one-time charge or a free generator? I need one QR code and all the websites i've found have a $14.95 fee/mo and I don't need a subscription service for a one time QR code.

I'm trying to link a JPG/PDF...so basically an image. I found the google one but it doesn't allow for an image, just a website/v-card/etc.

Nope, they have a free trial which only allows the code to work for the free trial and then they deactivate it.

And the encodings are standardized so you could compute and draw one by hand if you were so inclined. There are numerous free apps to generate codes with whatever info you want.

What these sites are doing when you put an image or other file in the code is they are actually just putting a URL (web address) which they control, and they host the file there. To "deactivate" the QR code, they just remove the file that it points to, but the code still points to the same location.
In order to do the same thing for "free", you will need a domain that you control the URL structure of. Then you can generate a QR which points to your URL, then you can control the content that people arrive at.

We ordered business cards from Vistaprint and they will create one for you. I don't remember there being a fee as long as you bought cards or whatever with it on there.

That all makes sense. Could obtaining the URL structure be as easy as adding it to my companies website?

Yes! You can use any of the free QR generators to make one with a URL that points to yoursite.com/promo, for example. Those QR's will always contain that URL, and you can change the content at yoursite.com/promo whenever you want.
Those sites charge money to keep the QR "active" because not everyone has a site or the knowledge to do that.

Got it, thanks! Going to reach out to my website company to create a new landing page.
