Projector for media room

Looking at finally turning my media room into a place to watch tv. Lol
It's already prewired for 5.1 and a projector. I've looked online and looks like projectors are anywhere from $500-$10,000 for 4K
Any advice is appreciated. I'd like to go with a middle of the road one. My wall can fit around a 100-110 inch screen
TIA

Epson 8350 is a great all around projector and there are plenty of aftermarket bulbs for cheap.

You are thinking 110 inches, what distance from wall is the projector?

Youll definite want to consider the distance you have. To get 110 inches, you need to make sure the projectors throw distance matches the available space.
Invest in a good screen btw. I made my own with some ambient light rejecting material because I have a lot of outside light.
Also unless prices have dropped steeply, those arent true 4k projectors. However pixels on a projector arent as hard as on a tv. HDR plus that faux 4k Epson is pitching will look great on a good screen.

I just ordered the brand new Sony VLP-VW285ES...it just started shipping, so I should have mine this week--I hope.
The 285 is 4K and retails for $5k. The 385ES I believe is $8000.
I am using a 110" screen. The throw on the new Sony is a bit longer than the Epson PJ's. The front of the lens will be 13.5 feet from my screen.
Also, Epson, under $10k is an e-shift, not a true 4K.
This new Sony 285 is the least expensive native 4K on the market right now, and they just started hitting the streets last week.

It's approx 11 feet from projector wiring to wall and approx 14 feet from couch to wall
I have no clue if that's too big or not. I can do smaller.

110 inches will look good at a 14 ft seating distance for sure. Mine is at 12ft.
Pick out the projector you want. Youtube has some great reviewers. Then adjust your setup from there. You can always add an hdmi extension, but you cant add distance to your room. Plan it all out, then buy everything. Buy your screen after you set everything else up.

Thanks for the info on that Sony ive been waiting for 4k not to cost 10k to upgrade!

I used to watch a lot of Tekzilla back in the day and Robert Heron was their TV/Audio guy. These are his recommendations.

I also emailed him once with a really simple question and he replied pretty quickly, with quite a lot of detail. If you have any questions, you could always give that a try.

What speaker setup do you guys have?
I'm getting a 5.1 and don't want to break the bank. I had Polk in my old house and it sounded great. Hard to beat the value
Also, looking at the Onkyo 575. Thoughts?

An extremely good budget projector is the Ben Q HT2050 at 700$. Assuming youre not sensitive to DLP.
I like my Energy Take Classic 5.1 for a good budget minded speaker setup.
If youre moderately handy you can make your own screen for a fraction of the cost with wood and screen material.

11 feet throw distance could be an issues. You need to research projectors and their throw distances for a 100" and 110" screen.
Also, bigger is not necessarily better in screen size. A 110" screen is approximately 33% more screen size to drive than a 100" screen. Therefore, it requires a lot more light output to properly drive that screen.
So, throw distance and proper light output should be two of your biggest criteria when shopping for a projector.

Bumping this due to new measurements i took. I must have been drunk the first time because i have new measurements for my media room.
its long and narrow. Its only 123 inches wide(10.3 feet), and now its actually 17 feet deep, and 16 feet from where ill be watching on the couch.
The throw is around 10.5/11 feet.
The 100 inch looks small at best buy when i went. Do you think i could get away with a 110 inch screen if watching from 16 feet back but only 10.3 feet wide?

That all depends on the lumen output and the amount of ambient light the room will see.
go spend some time on avsforum.com and see what many of those guys are doing. I lurked for about 8 months and picked up a good bit of info.

I have a BenQ HT2050 that someone recommended here
Calculate your dimensions here: LINK
You can even install an 120 inch screen in your media room with no issues.
At 11 ft throw, you can easily get an 120 inch projection (104 inches wide) with 1.18x zoom - HT2050 has optical zoom up to 1.3x.
I'd think of going bigger than smaller. Heck, you can even fit in an 130 inch screen with no issues. Play with the calculator.

I put in the Sony VW675ES last Christmas and it's gorgeous. We watch movies or shows in our theater every night. We painted the room dark and can control light with no issues. Screen size is 135 inches. I hope you can get a sense of what you will have to work with once you get furniture and speakers in there from my pics.
